Gastrodiplomacy

Wouldn’t it be great if instead of sending tanks across the border, differences could be settled by cooking?

This is the concept on which Gastrodiplomacy relies: “the use of food and cuisine as an instrument to create cross-cultural understanding in the hopes of improving interactions and cooperation”.

So, basically, a type of cultural exchange based on the typical dishes and gastronomic specialities of each country.

The promotion of national cuisine by favouring not only the opening of new ethnic food restaurants abroad, but also lessons and seminars that go beyond the food aspect per se.

Promoting one’s national culture, as well as get to know that of other states, through tastes and flavours.

At the end of the day, the national cuisine is the sum of the history, customs and heritage of a population.

it is too optimistic to think that all differences can be resolved by sitting down at the table, we all agree on that.

But if it is a way to promote dialogue, then why not?

Naïve, perhaps. But certainly, less stupid than making war.

So, cook to build excellent relations with neighbouring states. And make sure you do it with excellent catering equipment.

You don’t want to unleash a diplomatic incident, do you?
